EA VS FOX

Wow. Three posts in one day.

Fox news recently had an interview with so-called "psychologist" Cooper Lawrence and Geoff Keighley, who actually played video games. Anyone who has watched this and played Mass Effect instantly knows almost everything they said is false. Well, at lest what Cooper said.

"Have you ever played Mass Effect?" - Geoff
"No." - Interviewer

See the problem? The story can be found here [link] and the video will either make you laugh or get real angry (as it did me). (If you scroll down to comment 17 mine's there)

EA was shrugged of by Fox, and are now filing for lawsuit. [link] My comment is number 26.

A petition is now going around. At the time of writing 92 people already have signed it, and it's been up for only a couple of hours.

If you want Fox News to actually properly review things and you hate games being the scapegoat SIGN PLEASE.

Last day of semester one classes. Joy! The entire extent of my day was just floor hockey and a small practical part of my science exam, of which I'm not exactly overjoyed about.
I've come to the conclusion that common sense is no longer common (half of you are probably going (if there is anyone reading this) "Duh! I already knew that"). What would you do if your knuckles on one hand were cut and bleeding? Bandage it? Disinfect it? Wipe the blood off?
What about putting your knuckles on a desk and have someone flick a quarter into it?

...

That's possibly one of the stupidest things you've ever heard. But it happened, and in the form of a game. A fucking game. How stupid can one get? Would you do that? And I love how everyone can watch it without caring, laughing when quarter dug into the flesh. Stupidity!!!

So my first exam, English, was completed today. Easier than I had expected. My real problem is math. And science is going to be a bitch to study for. So many things to remember! Ugg...

And remember to download Undertow in the Marketplace.

Undertow

The free arcade game "Undertow" is now available for download in the marketplace. Microsoft said they'd give us a free Xbox Live Arcade game in return for crappy LIVE over the holidays, and here it is. The game is hard to find though - for some reason it's not on any of the "New Arrival" screens. If you are set to download the trial games automatically you'll get the trial version, so if you want it be sure to download the full game. This isn't be advertised very loudly, and after Sunday this game will either disappear or you'll have to pay for it (or so I hear).

The Return of the 360

My Xbox came back this Friday. In my opinion, I am very impressed with Microsoft. Only one week after it was shipped and I got it back. So two weeks with no Xbox, but I do get free LIVE for a month. :) Thanks a bunch Microsoft.
Ok, so you may have noticed lack of any progress on the site. To see what I've done so far you can type the URL address and add the word 'home' after the slash. The first page is completed. Feedback would be nice!
Unfortunately due to pending exams no review is scheduled to be posted. Hell, I'm not even done the site! Why would any review be put there yet? But I am working on the Pull the Pin review.

I finally gave into temptation three days ago and bought myself Hitman: Blood Money (even though I had no 360!). I'm on A New Life, 2/3 through the game and I say that this game kicks ass. Now I'm to much of an achievement whore to go through trial and error for every mission, so x360a have very helpful videos showing how to get the Silent Assassin ratings. Even though I'm following someone else's instructions, it's very fun. Don't be fooled by the slightly sub-par graphics. It's a 2006 game is actually a port.
Meanwhile besides H:BM I've been playing Assassin's Creed (my favourite game to have come out of the November attack of awesome games), Guitar Hero II (my first (and only) Guitar Hero game. I'm working my way up through Medium), Gears of War (It's fun, I got it on Christmas and I need some achievements) and Halo 3. I love playing games where a) they're awesome and b) they have somewhat easy achievements.

Assassin's Creed. Many people hate this beautiful piece of work that is a stealth sandbox game that has you assassinate nine men in the twelfth century who are continuing the Crusades for their own benefit.
Haters will cry that they game is incredibly repetitive. Pickpocket him, stab him, listen to him...Well you're not supposed to play this game for ten straight hours. And the fact that there is so much to do before you stab your target makes the act of assassination seem so much sweeter. It's like drinking water before you run and it being tasty or drinking it after you run and it being life-saving.
Second: They complain about a shitty one-button attack scheme. Well if they could find me an attack scheme that doesn't screw up the rest of the existing controls, show me. The X for attack scheme means you aren't rapidly mashing it - it means that you focus more on the timing of your attacks (E.g. You press X when the swords connect to execute a Combo Kill or X when blocking to perform a Counter Kill). Also, it's not really one button. B is also used for grabbing.
Ok, there's my why-Assassin's-Creed-does-not-suck rant.

Here you go! Another Spriggs.

RRoD!!

I just got the Red Ring of Death...got in contact with Microsoft and I'm expecting the "coffin" (a white box) now, so I can give it to Purolator and ship it to the repair store somewhere in India and wait for three weeks for it to come back. I knew this day would come. I've had it since December 06 (but purchased October 06 - Christmas present) so I suppose that after 15 months I was pushing my luck. And after all the time I was playing Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed and Guitar Hero II I was just begging for it.
This pretty much means any and all video game reviews are on hold.
Microsoft seems to have this problem with reliable hardware. The Windows XP was plagued with the Blue Screen of Death, something I have also personally gone through. Now its the Red Ring of Death. Hopefully, my Vista won't come down with the Flashing Yellow Background of Death or something.

Now, on a lighter note I present "They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard!" Just listen. I couldn't stop laughing through the entire thing. If I'm nuts, feel free to tell me. If you think it's disturbing, you should see Leonard Limoy (AKA Spock, I think) singing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins." Oh God!

I also have two webcomics (one complete, another not) that depict Lord of the Rings and Star Wars Episode 1 as a part of D & D. I don't play D & D, my knowledge of the game extends to knowing that a high roll is good, but that's all you really need to know. They're both hilarious, because along they way they pick apart LoTR and SW.

Stars Wars - "Darths and Droids" http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/darthsanddroids/

LoTR - "DM of the Rings" (Completed) http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=612

Enjoy!
